President's Message
New Museum Brand Highlights Extraordinary Family Learning In June, The Children’s Museum launched a new rebranding initiative. Why refresh the brand? What’s wrong with the museum’s brand as it is? As the museum prepares to celebrate its 85th anniversary, it is the right time to reflect on our brand, refresh our look, and improve our messaging to better reflect our stature as a global leader among all museums serving children and families. We are rooted in a wonderful and proud past, but we are a much different museum than we were nearly 15 years ago, when our mark was last refreshed. Since that time, the museum has seen astonishing growth and change. From the creation of Dinosphere to the towering Fireworks of Glass, from the development of The Power of Children: Making a Difference and Take Me There: Egypt, to building a new Welcome Center, The Children’s Museum has been a museum on the move, continually changing and developing new, interactive learning experiences that have the power to transform the lives of children and families.
Through our new messaging, we intend to reach regional and national audiences and tell them what our members and so many Central Indiana families already know—that The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is a must-experience destination for families. With more than 40 percent of our more than 1 million annual visitors coming from 100 miles outside Indianapolis, we are already the city’s leading cultural tourism destination. Through our new brand campaign, we believe we can grow tourism even more, benefiting the museum and the Central Indiana economy. The new Children’s Museum mark echoes the design of the new Welcome Center with its roofline raised by a life-size adult Brachiosaur so that a young Brachiosaur can enter. This magical sculpture excites children and adults alike, evoking both awe and delight as visitors enter the museum. Our new mark reflects this welcoming spirit, and supports the museum’s position as the biggest and the best, with engaging, interactive, and imaginative learning experiences that appeal to all ages.
